Miss Patina - Austen dress illustration

Last year I entered into the Miss Patina artist within illustration competition, I didn't win but I really enjoyed creating my illustration (see here if you fancy). So I was really excited to see that the competition is running again this year! The aim of the competition is to illustrate your favourite dress by Miss Patina. Not as easy as it sounds, after looking at the website for a good 20 minutes, I chose the Austen dress.

 First Aid kit

It's a classic dress, that could be dressed up or down. It reminds me of the style of dresses Swedish sisters, Klara and Johanna, from the folk band First Aid Kit wear. That then lead me to day dream whimsical, magical  thoughts involving woods, a low setting sun, and pretty much putting myself into a first aid kit music video! After much day dreaming and a good strong cup of tea I set to work drawing and then painting my illustration of the Austen dress.
I had so much fun painting and picking out colours, while doing this it reminded me of dressing up my barbie dolls when I was a child, even as an adult I definitely found the same joy painting on the details. I wasn't too sure what shoes to pick or invent with my brush, the dress being called Austen, presumably linked to Jane Austen, actually made me think of Austen Texas and cowgirl boots. After that thought, the idea of any other shoe except making her go bare foot, didn't fit into my whimsical day dreams from earlier! And here she is!

I entered my finished illustration into the Instagram competition, there's plenty of time for you to enter too, as it runs until the 16 June 2014. The overall winner will win the dress they have illustrated, (that would be a whimsical day dream come true for me!) which is picked at random. The five illustrations to have had the most likes on the Miss Patina Facebook page will win a lovely tote bag. My entery is yet to pop up onto the Miss Patina facebook page but is due any day now, I would love it if you could keep an eye out and give my illustration a little like.

I also want to say thank you to everyone who read my last post about living with an invisible illness, I was overwhelmed with the positive response I received, thank you so, so much.
